Well done to Sandi Thom for getting to number 2 with her first single. Don't get me wrong I'm not a massive fan of the tune, but the way she's done it is quite unique. By webcasting her gigs from her basement she reached an audience that most new artists can only dream of. And this is without Myspace or anything like that. The Myspace phenomenon has been accredited to a lot of things, including the success of the Arctic Monkeys, when in truth they were huge on the underground indie scene a long time before they were on Myspace.

The advantage for new bands now is that there are so many more ways to reach your audience- we no longer have to only listen to whatever dirge Radio 1or the commercial stations want to play. We can find music pretty much wherever we want to, and I think we'll find that more and more artists will become successful through less traditional methods.

Also, check out the Pigeon Detectives. Quality.

Another Pete Doherty rant......

He has now squirted a syringe of his own blood at a MTV news crew that were doing an interview with Babyshambles (nme.com) Apparently even his own bandmates were disgusted with his behaviour. The question is how are people still thinking he is a hero. He was recently voted 2nd best rock hero ever (behind Kurt Cobain), by NME readers. HOW??????? Is it just because he is a tortured artist and people love that? I am completely baffled by the whole scenario.

Bought the new Snow Patrol album yesterday- on first listen its OK, but I don't think that it has as many stand out tracks as Final Straw. Having said that, I'm going to see them on Saturday so maybe I'll feel differently. I'm glad I'm moving towards the summer festies though. So far this year I've only seen one gig, which is shocking. Fair enough it was Razorlight and they were absolutley brilliant. They are fast becoming my favourite band to see live- and not just cause of the Borrell.

As we listen to Radio 1 at work all day, I'm also getting that Nerina Pallot song rammed down my throat all the time which is doing my swede in. Its typical wannabe girly pop bullsh**. And it annoys me as I end up singing it all day!
